The Cake & Bake Show – Manchester
Back in September I saw a poster for The Cake and Bake show, and my immediate thought was my mum would LOVE that, and I totally would too. I mean, what’s not to love? A whole Saturday surrounded by cake… I was sold.
So I booked the tickets and we waited excitedly for the day to come.
I am an absolute super fan of the Great British Bake Off; I probably get way too excited about it for an 18 year old, but it’s just the best. So when I discovered that some of the contestants were going to be there my excitement grew even more. My mum and I are also keen bakers, so we were eager to swoon over all the cakes and hopefully learn a few tips and tricks whilst we were there.
So last Saturday we headed to Manchester to experience our baking heaven. I have never seen so much cake! It was amazing!
There were also talks going on throughout the day. The first one we went to was a tutorial on how to make a Christmas drip cake. Much to my delight they brought out some surprise guests from GBBO- Louise and val. Yes VAL. Life made.
Some of the cakes on display were just unbelievable! ‘How can that be a cake?’ was definitely the most asked question of the day. One highlight for me was the Beatrix Potter section, in which The Sugar Chronicles (a group of extremely talented bakers) brought Beatrix Potter characters to life in cake form, as a way of celebrating her 150th birthday. I was in absolute awe of how amazing the whole display looked.
Also, major cake creds to Richards’ Cakes who made the incredible christmas minion cake, shown in the feature picture at the top. That cake was amaaazzinggg!!! I was looking at it for so long, because there was so much detail and lots to discover. There were so many unbelievable cakes, but unfortunately I couldn’t find all the names of the very talented creators.
Another highlight came as a surprise. Whilst searching for the toilets (as you do) we discovered yet another room. A magical room decked in fairy lights with trees wherever you looked. Yes… it was Christmas. AHHH! I know, I know its only early November blah blah blah, but I didn’t care, it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling of utter excitement. There were carol singers and Santa was even there. SANTAAAAA! It was so lovely, and full of stalls selling the most beautiful Christmas decorations. We could have spent the whole day in there. But we didn’t. We would have spent waaayyy too much money. So, we headed back to the Cake & Bake room to listen to GBBO winner Candice discuss her baking tips.
So overall the day revolved around cake and Christmas. I don’t think life gets much better than that, does it? It also inspired me to start thinking about all the Christmas baking I’ll be doing this year. I cannot wait.
Lots of love,
